Diagnosis of IPF, Focus on Radiology and Pulmonology
Drs. Maryl Kreider, Kevin Flaherty, Jesse Roman, and Kevin Gibson discuss a case of IPF diagnosis in a 78-year-old woman, with a focus on the importance of an interdisciplinary approach that includes radiology and pulmonology. While the characteristics of IPF by high res CT are well defined by international guidelines, recognition of more subtle features of IPF is often difficult. Furthermore, differentiation between IPF and other pulmonary fibrotic disorders is critical in order to assess the proper prognosis and course of treatment. The various clinical considerations leading to the diagnosis of IPF are reviewed in this case discussion.
